There are hundreds of Aquarius Ultima Controllers out there in swimming pool plant rooms. Not very many of them are operated in a fashion that utalise the tremendous ability that they give the user in managing a swimming pool.
There is no way I would service a commercial pool without a web connected chemical controller. If you are the person responsible for the health and safety of patrons using a commercial swimming pool, then you need to be certain that the pool is sanitised at all times.
Product Information will give you all the information about the different Ultima Chemical Controllers.
Maintain the correct pH as accurately as possible always. Everything else depends on this.
Utilize your remote connection. Log on using Aquareporter at least twice a day. A stitch in time. It takes about 30 seconds. Longer if there is a problem, which is why you have such a quality controller.

When you check the previous day's graphs you are looking for an expected pattern that reflects the activities during the previous day. If it isn't what you expect it to be then you need to find out why.

A swimming pool has the ability to look really good when it isn't. When Service Procedures are ignored or skipped a day of reconning usually follows.
Unless there is a camera on the pool someone remotely checking a pool, using an Ultima Controller, does not know what to expect when looking at an ORP screen for example. If you know that groups of children use the pool at different times during the day, then you know what is causing the sudden demands for dosing.
Knowing that a big group of triathletes will be training in the morning you can increase your dosing by increasing the chlorination set-point in anticipation of the extra demand on the sanitation. You might even have to set a super-chlorinate (by activating one of the available Ultima Timers) overnight to knock out the chloramines created during their sweaty session.
Clear blue skies and long days will destroy your chlorine. Solar exposure can vary
4.1 MJm-2 to 31.5 MJm-2. Care needs to be taken if using Cyanuric Acid to counteract chlorine consumption.
Many things can affect sanitation. Examples,
It's important that these occurrences are known to someone remotely monitoring a pool.
Investigate when something does not look normal. Follow the above and you will minimalise problems. When a problem does occur, there is an amazing array of tools available (including your brain) to help solve the problem.
You can choose any three of the listed parameters and display them over a selected period of time. This gives you a means of seeing the effects one chemical has on another.
If you want to see who has been doing what on the Ultima this is the place to look. This is especially important if you, as an operator, has been away for a few days and things just don't look right.
Alarms can be set to be sent to designated people via text or email. You can set alarms on the individual pages for each parameter. You need to be careful with this one. You have to decide on the importance of issuing an alarm. You also need to be careful in selecting who receives the alarms. You don't want someone turning them off because they got sick of receiving alarms for events that don't matter.
This is very useful. For example, if you want to turn your acid feed off for a period just after you have added sodium bicarbonate to the balance tank. You go into your pH screen and change the mode from 'flow' to 'disabled'. You just set your alarm on your phone and when it goes off you just log on to aquareporter (using your phone) and reset the mode back to 'flow'.
When you are finding it difficult to find the cause of a problem and the graphs are not giving you the answer then you can look at the data. The data can be downloaded for a selected period and for the parameters you are investigating.
This can be quite daunting at first. Contact us if you are having problems. This is what we do.
You can organise reports to be sent to those who need to be informed. This has the benefit of,
Don't fall into the trap of believing that a chemical controller will manage everything for you without any input from your brain. It's just a tool like everything else. You will be confronted by those believing that it operates like a refrigerator. That is, just having one will solve all of your pool problems. Sometimes the fact that a controller is just one factor that goes into pool sanitation control gets totally missed.
I experienced the benefit of this when a building manager was constantly getting harassed by an owner complaining about the pool water temperature. I set the system to email him a daily temperature report. That worked wonders. I also set the system to send him an alarm when the temperature dropped below a predetermined level of his choosing.
I had a problem with the acid running out unexpectedly at a new install. I was able to download the acid pump dose rate and pH data per minute. By using that along with the rate the pulse pump delivered the acid, the drum volume and dilution, I was able to work out how much was getting pumped over x days. This confirmed that there was nothing wrong with the equipment. The problem could be easily fixed by getting a larger acid storage drum or by taking more care with the sodium bicarbonate quantity being added.
On another occasion I was able to use the data in the graph format to show how a bigger chemical pump was needed for the chlorine when the time came to replacing the old one.
The bigger the operation the greater the need for information especially when it comes to sanitation and costs.
Managing your chemicals is just the beginning of what you can do with a quality controller such as the Aquarius Ultima. Adding a web connection gives you the ability to fully tap into the power of the Ultima Pro Controller. The ability to connect many devices takes this controller beyond just being a chemical feeder to becoming a pool management system. Imagine being able to see the system flow rate, the temperature, TDS (salt level), water meters, tank levels and just about anything else you would find helpful. It’s not just about seeing the parameters; it’s about how they are connected and the story they tell.
